Case 01
HP Inc. with UAE Ministry of Education

HP IDEA, Innovation and Digital Education Academy.

HP IDEA launched in October 2020 with the UAE Ministry of Education's Training and Professional Development Department across twelve Emirati schools. Verdant designed and delivered the founding cohort with HP, Intel, and the Ministry, translating HP's global concept into a year-long, pedagogy-first academy mapped to KHDA and MoE goals.

The UAE model placed two roles in every school, HP IDEA Fellows as instructional leaders and HP IDEA Associates as classroom practitioners, with four annual conferences, weekly coursework, and curriculum grounded in Harvard Graduate School of Education and University of Michigan research. It ran in both English and Arabic classrooms. The UAE cohort became the reference model HP scaled worldwide.

Case 02
Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation for Education

Takween Al Ghurair, Emirati youth enrichment.

Takween Al Ghurair is the UAE's first activity-based after-school enrichment programme for Emirati students aged 13 to 18. Verdant delivered the 2024 to 2025 cycle and was reappointed for 2026 to 2027.

Verdant built a four-course, Arabic-medium, gamified enrichment portfolio grounded in play-based pedagogy. Every activity maps to the three pillars of the UAE National Education Charter: National Identity, Learner Attributes, and Future Skills. Each course runs four two-hour sessions with a maximum of twenty-five students per cohort. A longitudinal Belonging research strand runs alongside delivery, and alumni continue as Student Ambassadors and Alumni Council members.

Case 03
Private and Charter schools, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi

Whole-school Science of Reading, English and Arabic.

Sites shared a common profile. Inspection ratings held at Good or Acceptable, but Elementary and Middle attainment in English and Arabic stayed at Acceptable, and MAP and PIRLS results sat below the international median.

Verdant deployed its Science of Reading framework across parallel English and Arabic strands. The cycle combined diagnostic assessment benchmarked to MAP RIT bands and PIRLS descriptors, a whole-school literacy policy, teacher professional learning, fortnightly coaching for Grades 3 to 9, small-group intervention, and a Family Reading Make-and-Take Programme.

Case 04
UAE regulators and school groups

Emiratisation of school leadership and teaching staff.

UAE private schools face two pressures at once. Regulators expect a growing share of Emirati leaders and teachers, and schools compete for a limited pool of qualified candidates. Verdant moves Emiratisation from a compliance target to a talent strategy.

Engagements combine regulator-facing policy input with school-facing execution: an Emirati talent map refreshed each recruitment cycle, a five-stage bilingual selection process aligned to KHDA and ADEK descriptors, twelve-month induction with fortnightly instructional or leadership coaching, and a leadership cohort for Emirati vice principals and heads of department. Mentor pairing runs across all appointments.

Case 05
GCC regulator engagement

Literacy improvement in public private partnership schools.

A GCC regulator asked Verdant founder Dr. Christine Nasserghodsi to support literacy improvement across a network of schools operated under a public private partnership model. The approach linked Tier 2 and Tier 3 intervention back into Tier 1 classroom instruction.

Work covered policy development and implementation, data analysis to identify at-risk students, targeted flexibility for schools to intervene in literacy and English, a gap analysis against the Science of Reading, monitoring and evaluation, and structured celebrations of success.

Case 06
Ethiopia, Ministry of Innovation and Technology, through HP

EITTDI, STEM and Gifted School Plan for Ethiopia.

Ethiopia's gifted-STEM provision was concentrated in university-hosted centres and short-course programmes. There was no integrated school model that combined selective admission, subject depth, applied research, and Ethiopian identity across secondary education.

Verdant designed a single national school architecture. Multi-stage identification for gifted STEM learners aged 15 to 21. Subject-deep tracks in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, and applied engineering, with annual capstone projects. Applied strands in robotics, biotechnology, space science, and AI. Subject specialist recruitment, a multi-year professional learning cycle with Ethiopian university partners, articulation into national innovation programmes, and a facilities and equipment specification sized to Ethiopian delivery constraints.

Case 07
UAE low-cost private school group

Low-cost school group improvement.

The mandate was to raise inspection ratings and student outcomes using the staff and resources already in place, without changing the fee model.

Verdant put in group-wide instructional coaching cycles with lead coaches drawn from within the group, common lesson planning templates, standardised assessment-for-learning practices, a middle leadership programme for heads of department, a group-wide self-evaluation calendar aligned to inspection, the Verdant school performance and student outcomes dashboard, HP School Improvement Coach Software, and retention interventions targeting workload and progression.

Case 08
Founders and operators across the UAE and region

New school plans and feasibility studies.

New school projects in the UAE typically fail on one of three fronts. The academic model can be misaligned with the target catchment. The regulator submission may not survive licensing scrutiny. The financial model can under-provision for the ramp-up years.

Verdant delivers a structured four-stage process aligned to KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, and MoE licensing timelines. Each stage produces a deliverable the founder can act on independently. Academic plans are written against inspection descriptors. Financial models account for real UAE enrolment ramp-up rather than linear growth assumptions. A named academic lead is present in every regulator engagement.

Case 09
African Union Commission with HP Inc. and Classera

HP BeOnline, continuity of learning during COVID-19.

In May 2020 the African Union Commission signed a partnership with HP to expand digital learning across Africa in response to COVID-19 school closures. The agreement was announced at the AU Specialised Technical Committee on Education, Science and Technology on 30 April 2020.

Verdant contributed the learning strategy and digital pedagogy design. HP provided the platform commitment and global education network. Classera provided the Learning Management System. The partners built and released BeOnline at no cost to AU member state schools and universities, aligned to the Continental Education Strategy for Africa, SDG 4, and the AU's 1 Million by 2021 initiative. It was endorsed at ministerial level across AU member states.

HP IDEA, Innovation and Digital Education Academy.

Programme

HP IDEA is the Innovation and Digital Education Academy. HP launched the programme with Intel and education partners in 2020 to build digital pedagogy capacity in schools. It has grown into HP's flagship global education initiative and now spans 35 countries in more than ten languages, reaching over 1.5 million students and 70,000 educators.

UAE origin

The UAE cohort was one of the first in the world. HP IDEA launched in October 2020 with the Ministry of Education's Training and Professional Development Department across twelve Emirati schools. Ms. Khawla Al Hosani, then Director of Training and Professional Development, positioned the academy as a way to equip Emirati teachers and school leaders with the skills to innovate.

Verdant led the design and delivery of the UAE programme. Dr. Christine Nasserghodsi worked directly with HP, Intel, and the Ministry to translate HP's global concept into a year-long, pedagogy-first academy mapped to KHDA and MoE goals.

How the UAE model worked

  • Two roles per school: HP IDEA Fellows as instructional leaders, HP IDEA Associates as classroom practitioners.
  • Three to six educators per school across twelve Emirati schools.
  • Four conferences across the year, with weekly coursework and structured peer learning between sessions.
  • Curriculum grounded in research from Harvard Graduate School of Education and the University of Michigan.
  • Delivery in both English and Arabic classrooms.

Impact

The UAE cohort became the reference model that HP scaled globally. HP IDEA's growth from twelve Emirati schools in 2020 to 1.5 million students in 35 countries by 2026 rests in part on the pedagogy design and delivery structure piloted in the UAE.
